Borderlands
So this is a rather recent game, and it's pretty neat in both gameplay and art.
It's not a like many-a-kind shooter for once, and although it is using RPG elements like so many games that try to be more interesting than your average shooter (fallout 3 being the only one doing this to a reasonable extend so far) borderlands does it a bit different, and alot more interesting. Still sticking to being a shooter, how you advance along the story depends on your class, selection of items, and the amount of time you take to explore and find hidden goods.
Now for the art... Id say have a peak first:
Every time you meet a new person, like in the intro, you see them do something cliché and fancy, and then have the shot with their name and still image. The entire game gives you a rather comic book feeling, having no fancy effects like height maps but instead just painting in the detail by manually adding shading and little wrinkles with pure black lines and what not. Aditionally the outlines around the objects pays back alot, it makes objects distinguishable, adds to the global feel, and still isn't distracting as it blends in perfectly fine with the feel of the game. So while retaining a feel of realism, it also shows that it is hand amde, and in a very stylish way. Just figured that any of you with time on their hands will want to try this out:)
